Paradox Series: Angels Are Here, Progeny Of Innocent & Bound By Blood

Posted by Wendy Ewurum  |  at  3:30 PM

This is an epic series. I loved it right from the first book and you can see my review of Book One here:  Angels Are Here Review. The rest to follow soon.
Today, however, I'd like to introduce you to the author of this phenomenal story: Patti Roberts.
I had a bit of a chat with Patti especially focused on Book One: Angels Are Here which I just completed.  Before I get into it with her though let me just share what this Australian beauty has to say  about herself.
***************************************************************
On any given day you can usually find me sitting at my desk in front of my laptop pounding away at the keys writing another chapter in the Paradox series. That would be a run of the mill kinda day for me!
A packet of Cruskits and a water bottle, that is now at room temperature, is sitting on the desk beside me. There is also a mass of USB cables, my kindle, notepads, bills to be paid, bills to be filed and a printer that is forever running out of ink. Sound familiar?
In front of me, apart from the obvious laptop (Acer), are three cork boards featuring pin ups of my characters faces and characteristics including eye colour, hair colour, age, height, ability....etc etc.
On most days I have to remind myself to eat and drink. I Should be thinner!!!

I was very curious to hear from you what the source of the idea for writing this story was. Can you share it?
I have always found death and the afterlife interesting.  What happens to us after we die.  Does our soul live on?  I do believe in reincarnation.  If there is a heaven, I don't picture it as a place floating on white fluffy clouds but rather as another dimension.  A mystical, magical dimension.  And in my Paradox Series, as on Earth, Heaven (Altair) also has its problems.  And in reality, good does not exist without evil.  The ying yang principal so to speak.  Heaven burns and Angels fall…

After reading the first book I kept wondering who was actually getting reincarnated and for what purpose? Is it Juliet, a Pinnacle being reborn to share a body with different souls or is Grace the one that is being reborn at different times? But I suppose the answers will come in subsequent books.  I’d love it if you could share your thoughts though on the whole reincarnation element.
These answers are revealed in future books... However, without giving too much away - here is a brief rundown.

In this story, told by Juliette who is an Alterian.  A girl that was living on Altair before the Grigorians attacked.  During the attack, Juliette witnessed a murder and she flees the burning city.  Heartbroken, she allows her body to die so that she can leave her body and become a free soul [Wanderer].  She did this so that she could help protect a pinnacle (water).  Her free soul and the water pinnacle merge into one so that she [Juliette] can be reborn into a human child [Grace] and be safe from the Grigorians.  Juliette is currently reincarnated in Grace's body so Grace frequently sees visions about Juliette's past lives.   Not only her lives, but her deaths too.

Juliette, heartbroken by what she witnessed in Altair 900 years ago was happy to leave her body in a bid to forget her painful memories.  However, that begins to be increasingly more difficult as people from a past she thought she had long ago put to rest are showing up in Grace's world.  The New world.  And through Grace, Juliette's old feelings begin to stir, making her question who and what she left behind 900 years ago.

There are 7 pinnacles.

The 3 supreme pinnacles that retain their own bodies and know who they are - Birth [Lucina], Death [Tia Lilly] and Emotion [left out - spoiler alert].

And the four natural pinnacles (elements) Water, Air, Fire, Earth. "Wafes".  All four [Wafes] have been reborn into human children over the centuries - unaware of who they are.  A safety precaution designed by the 3 remaining Royal Guardians.

The trouble is, some of those that were sent to protect the Wafes, have also forgotten who they are.  So until enough of those that were sent to protect are found, the Wafes are in danger.  For whoever controls the 7 pinnacles, controls the power of all souls.
The most powerful pinnacle is Emotion.  And she is still missing…  Or dead.
You weave a very intricate and exciting ancient world, I could hardly get enough from the bits you shared in Book One. I’m so interested in how you built it. What you used to help build it if anything other than your imagination.
A very vivid imagination and hours upon hours of research went into creating my Ancient medieval world along with, mythical legends of Ancient times, religions, dreamtime, magic...

One of the things I mentioned in my review was that you have a very unique take on the paranormal. That being said I also saw what I thought were threads of current vampire legend woven in such as the feeding habits of the fallen (Grigiorian) angels. Is there any relation here?
This is not a story about Vampires.  Although it would be very easy to come to that conclusion, one would be wrong - like so many before them over the centuries.  It is from these evil beings, the Grigorians, with their black wings and their unyielding taste for human flesh and blood, that the first fictional stories and legends about Vampires began.   And so, to this day, while mankind is still very much enthralled by tales about Vampires, the true identity of the Grigorian on earth remains hidden.   All but from a very few who continue to fight to the death to save the human race from total extinction.

The Angels are Here (Book One) feels like a foundation being laid out for the story. It appeared to me to have ended before something conclusive happened. So my question is, what was your plan when you started writing this series?
Paradox - The Angels Are Here is a novella and is a "portal" into the series.  An introduction.  It is designed to raise questions.  The questions will be answered in future installments in the series.

I like this quote -
If life seems to have more questions than answers,
try to be the one who asks the questions.
Written by Charles Schulz

Name one thing in the series that happens that you think is the most exciting event and that is something for the reader to look forward to.
Impossible...  There is so much going on here.  In the Ancient world and the new world.  Both are on a collision course.

The first 2 books are only the tip of the iceberg.  There are powerful immortal beings fighting in their Ancient World that fall to earth.  Some to protect, and some to destroy.

Grace, a young girl living in today's world who is haunted by the past - trapped in the middle of these two worlds - and who is reliving and falling in love with someone that is not of her time.  Or could they possibly be Juliette's feelings that she is experiencing and not her own at all???  Who is evil, who is good??

How do you fight an enemy that is stronger, smarter, faster?  And enemy that looks just like you and hides in plain sight.  An enemy who desires your soul to retain their unquenchable thirst for power and immortality.

You can run, but you cannot hide.  Is your Guardian Angel from Heaven or Hell?

About the Author

Most know me as the author to Fabulosity Reads and in actual fact, that is the previous name of this blog. I have since then moved my books to a Wordpress self-hosted blog so that I can have a place to show a different side of me which I am equally passionate about and that is marketing and personal development. I hope you will love being here, watching me grow as I share and learn. My highest hope is that we will grown and learn together in all disciplines affecting our lives. I'd LUUURRRVE to hear from you, so don't be shy...

  1. The worldbuilding alone sounds like it took a whole lot of doing. While I admire writers who put time and effort into this side of writing, it'd be a daunting task for me. Could be why I write stuff that's firmly grounded in reality. Much of the time anyway. :) The Paradox series does sound interesting.

  2. The story sounds very complex, but I think it will appeal to people who like the paranormal, like you said. What I'm actually amazed at is Patti's imagination - it is beyond wild. For someone to create a novel with such level of intricacy and detail is simply mindblowing.

  4. It feels like a movie the detail is so amazing Oluchi. Thanks for coming by hey.
J.L I can just imagine how much work must go into the research alone and then having to create the story around it or the otherway.

  5. One of the things that I really like writing about, and would like to spend more time writing about, are the chapters about Juliette's past lives (the ones that Grace relives) in the different centuries. Which means of course that the characters go by different names that coincide with that period in time and place. In today's world, the character's name is GRACE :) Thank you for the opportunity to share with your blog friends Wendy. And thank you everyone for your comments. For more info, come check out the Paradox Series on the Paradox site - http://theangelsarehere.wordpress.com/ Patti.
