Actor Paul Walker Has Died

According to TMZ, "Fast & Furious" actor Paul Walker has died in a car accident at age 40.

The actor first rose to fame in teen-centric flicks like Varsity Blues and The Skulls, but it was the Fast & Furious franchise where he found his most lasting success. Ironically, Paul--who learned to do many of his own stunts for the movie--reportedly died in a car accident when the Porsche he was driving hit something on the side of the road and then burst into flames. Another person was also reportedly in the car, but that individual has not yet been identified.

Variety also confirmed the news of Paul's death. The accident took place around 3:30 PM Pacific time in the California town of Santa Clarita.

Paul was said to be driving back from a charity car event whose proceeds went to Philippines typhoon relief efforts. Based on his experiences making the Fast & Furious films, the actor had gotten involved in car shows and owned several vehicles, including a replica of the one that his character Brian O'Conner owned.

In recent years, the California-born actor had branched out into other careers in addition to acting. He pursued philanthropic efforts, working with the group REACH OUT Worldwide to help earthquake victims in Chile and Haiti. Paul's Twitter bio read, "Outdoorsman, ocean addict, adrenaline junkie... and I do some acting on the side."

Paul leaves behind one daughter, Meadow, 15. The young woman reportedly moved from Hawaii to California so that she could spend more time with her dad. Filming had recently begun on Fast & Furious 7, which was to include Paul. There's no word yet on whether the film will go ahead.
